HDC Active Yoga: The Merchati Salutation

Hanson Dodge Creative - Active YogaAs an active lifestyle company we are committed to encouraging our team to stay active and fit. Earlier in the year, a number of our team expressed interest in having a Hanson Dodge Yoga class. As it turns out, in addition to my Project Management background, I am also a yoga instructor. So, in March of this year, I offered to teach an onsite class – our HDC Active Yoga program.

A small group of our team members have been joining me on Thursdays at noon to practice Hatha yoga. We welcome anyone who wants to join, whether it is a staff member or client visiting for the day. Some days we concentrate on loosening up, some days it is about stress relief; other times, it is mental and physical relaxation.

We practice many yoga asana (poses) and many traditional flows, including the sun salutations and the moon salutations. Flows in yoga are a series of asana that are done one after another in succession with the intent of creating a physical effect.

As we progressed we wanted to occasionally have a class that was energizing and helped us gather our strength. As a guide, I created what I call the “Merchati Salutation,” after the Sanskrit word “merchati” which means “gather strength.” The Merchati Salutation is a series of 37 asana using many of the warrior poses.

We all feel that this flow is very energizing and wanted to share it with you so that you can benefit from the energizing effects off this yoga flow.

Here is the Merchati Salutation.
